Great for teaching about feelings, but could be overstimulating

Rory the Mindfulness Plush is an adorable bright yellow lion designed to sit around the neck of a child or adult. It has a mild weight that’s soothing without being too heavy, and the face is very cute and inviting. It sits perfectly around the neck, and as a therapist I can see it being a wonderful tool to help children talk about their feelings in a fun way for kids. I think this toy can be fun for kids as well as educational. That said, there are some drawbacks. The sound feature is located in the lion’s face, so the roar or guided message plays directly into the ear. Since there’s no way to adjust the volume, this could cause sensory overload for some children or adults.Used with support, it can be a helpful mindfulness tool, but I wouldn’t recommend leaving it with a child unsupervised. The plush itself feels well-made and durable, with a soft, comfortable texture. I like the gentle weight, and I think the concept teaches a great lesson.Overall, it’s a good value for the money, though I wish there were volume control options to make it more versatile for sensitive users.

    Roaring Lion

This item is made of quality materials. It’s soft and roars like a lion. It is very cute and looks just like the photos. It’s not too heavy for even toddlers to use. I do wish that it had a wider range of emotions to teach, but it does teach about releasing anger which is still educational. I think that the price is steep at $40. I’d buy this for $25 maximum.

    Cute, but that’s about it

Rory the Emotional Support Lion – it’s a cute idea in theory, but in execution it is just a stuffed lion with a few beads in the bottom that goes around the neck. It roars. Any educational value has to come from the parent explaining how to use the lion. There’s no paperwork included, so if you get it as a gift from a child, it likely to end up as a weird rounded lion in a pile of stuffies. The lack of paperwork and child-focused educational materials makes the educational value nil. the quality appears good. The weight is not as heavy as I’d like. It needs more beans to be a soothing weighted object. The inability to transfer the idea into reality reduces the value of the toy, and makes it an overpriced stuffie. Some kids may like it because it’s cute.

    Cute… when mute

The media could not be loaded.

The toy itself is physically excellent. It’s soft, the colors are bright, and Rory’s face is delightfully cute. It’s got a healthy weight to it (intended to be soothing when worn around the neck/shoulders) and it’s pretty big – note the picture of it around the shoulders of our 12-month-old, and also around my adult shoulders. Works on both! Cozy.If you smell a BUT coming (and all of us parents know that smell) it’s this – the audio component leaves a bit to be desired. By default when you smack or squeeze Rory’s face you hear either:1.) “Roooaaarr….” Which is a guy SAYING “Roooaaarr,” not an actual roar;2.) Or an admittedly life-positive, but long winded explanation about managing difficult feelings by taking a deep breath and roaring them out.(Video included trying to capture the audio)These audio bits both got pretty old. They’re not cute, and not particularly high quality. In their defense it’s a speaker in a children’s plush toy, so they might have just went overboard with their goals here. Simpler sounds might have presented better here, though I respect their effort to help children with their “big feelings” which isn’t so simple at all.FORTUNATELY, there’s a little zipper that allows access to the voice component. If you find it not-so-cute or a bit grating and don’t want it to be part of the toy, you can remove it very easily with no damage to the toy. That’s what we’ve done, and now we have no complaints. So, one star off because some amount of the price of the toy is for a component it’s kinda better off without, but overall we still like it. Baby happens to really enjoy draping all kinds of things over her neck and shoulders (bags, shoe laces, etc) right now so Rory the Lion is PERFECT for that, and she’ll be able to play with him or use him as a pillow for many years.

    Cool but over stimulating

Let me start off by saying this product does everything they advertise it to do, it roars and talks a little bit. It’s soft, paws have a nice light weight, it’s cool for a toddler having big feelings. But let me also add that if you are an easily overwhelmed or overstimulated parent, this toy WILL send you over the edge, it has no volume control, and hearing “roar” on repeat over and over and over and over and OVER has me regretting some choices. I will go do my big belly breathing now. It is a really cool toy, it’s bright, it’s loud, it’s durable and large, my daughter loves it, but there is a good chance we “lose it”.

    Disappointing quality for the price

I was really looking forward to this lion because I love the idea of a mindful, weighted plush that helps kids relax and learn emotional regulation. The concept is wonderful and something more toys should focus on. Unfortunately, the one I received didn’t live up to the description or expectations at all. It arrived looking used, with visible scuffs and dirt marks on the fabric, almost like it had been previously handled or returned. That immediately made it feel unhygienic, especially for something meant to be soothing and comforting for children. I even double-checked to see if maybe it had been packed that way, but the overall condition really suggested it wasn’t brand new.The material itself feels soft enough, but the overall build doesn’t seem as high quality as the photos make it appear. The seams were uneven in some areas and the stuffing wasn’t evenly distributed, so it didn’t drape as comfortably as it should for a weighted plush. The sound function was also disappointing. Instead of offering calming sounds or gentle breathing guidance, it was more mechanical and abrupt. It honestly startled my child the first time we turned it on, which defeats the purpose of something that’s supposed to promote mindfulness and calm. It’s possible I got a defective one, but even if that’s the case, the quality control needs to be better for the price point. For a mindfulness or self-soothing toy, presentation and sensory experience matter a lot, and this missed the mark in both areas. The idea is great, but the execution needs work. I wouldn’t recommend this particular one unless the company improves the material quality, cleanliness, and sound design.ProsSoft weighted concept is a great ideaTeaches mindfulness in theoryCute designConsArrived dirty and scuffed upSounds are loud and not soothingFeels like it was previously usedLow overall quality for the price

Rory the Lion is super soft and cute but zipper gives easy access to remove voice box

We were excited to receive Rory the Lion. We have several other items from this brand, and all have been high quality. Rory is no exception. He is very bright and cheerful with his bright yellow and red colors. He has some good weight to him from the weighted portion of his body. He fits just perfectly around our son’s neck as they show in the promotional images. He does speak if you press his head/nose. I find the volume quite loud and the voice is a little extra for me personally. For a calming toy, I expected perhaps a little less of a yelling voice and a more calming tone. The one thing about this toy that disappointed me was the voice box is put right behind the head with a zipper and a loop on it. Within the first 5 minutes my toddler brought me the inner box that he had already removed on his own. It’s not attached to anything inside and comes right out. For ease of washing, that’s a great option, for keeping it out of the hands of your toddler, not so much. It’s not a hidden zipper, just a regular, easy to open one. So the options are to keep the voice box out of the toy when he’s playing with it independently, or sew it shut at the zipper to make it more secure. Overall this is a great stuffed animal with a great premise, just seems like for the price, they would have considered this one issue.

    Cute and educational

Rory the lion is such a cute and comforting stuffy. It has a little weight to it which can help regulate emotions. My son has already been using rory to help calm himself down. He is 5 and has been learning what his emotions are and how to best navigate them. I think Rory is very helpful with this.I don’t necessarily love the voice box though. It’s very loud and not adjustable. It’s especially loud when Rory is around your neck, next to your ear.I also find it annoying that he only has 2 sayings. I wish he would do just a little more.My son loves Rory though, and enjoys cuddling with him. Rory is soft and durable. He fits perfectly around my 5 year olds and 9 year olds necks. He’s fun and educational as well as great for learning about emotions.Overall, we enjoy this neck pillow toy, but I do think the price is a tad high for what he does.

Big Roar in a small package

This is a super cute fluffy friend. It’s not super crazy weighted, so you don’t have to worry about your kiddo feeling the weight of the world. It’s not quite as heavy as I thought it would be, though.I think it’s the perfect size for a young kiddo around 4 – 7. Although, I could see older kids loving this as well, but it may be a bit too small for some of the older kids.It has a high quality material to it and is definitely a good price.I will also say that it’s face has a button that roars and talks when you press it.This is a really cute gift for anyone with kids or your own kiddo.

Rory the lion! Cutest stuffed animal.

This is the cutest little stuffed lion ever! I love how it teaches kids to breathe through anger. It’s literally helping them learn to regulate an emotion. My kids love it they have a lot of fun with it. They play with it in all sorts of ways as a pillow, necklace, imaginary play and when they get upset they push the button and listen to him. The size is perfect as it fits around their neck just right. It’s really durable too. It’s stuffed really well and seems like it will be hard to rip. This toy is definitely worth the price and I would recommend it for sure.
